According to the allegations highlighted in the report, several important routes—including areas around Degree College, Police Line, Nehru Nagar, Indira Nagar and the Mama Chowraha overbridge—were either closed or heavily restricted as part of security and traffic arrangements for the Chief Minister’s programme.
Congress workers alleged that the restrictions resulted in long traffic jams across parts of the city, with commuters reportedly spending considerable time trying to reach schools, hospitals, markets and workplaces. The party questioned whether adequate diversion plans had been prepared and whether residents had been properly informed about the restrictions in advance.
Congress Questions Traffic Management
Congress representatives argued that security arrangements for VIP movements should not create excessive hardship for ordinary citizens. They called for better advance planning, timely public information and clearly marked alternative routes during major government programmes.
The party also sought accountability from the district administration and police regarding the management of traffic and diversions.
CM Yogi Announces Major Development Projects
The report also highlights the development initiatives announced during Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s Raebareli visit.
According to the poster, the Chief Minister inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 346 development projects worth more than ₹879 crore at the Firoz Gandhi Degree College ground.
Among the projects highlighted were:
Strengthening of the Maharajganj–Inhauna road, costing more than ₹36 crore.
Construction of a G+12 transit hostel at Police Line, costing more than ₹24 crore.
Strengthening and widening of the Kundanganj road, costing more than ₹21 crore.
Various irrigation, education, healthcare and infrastructure projects.
The programme also included the distribution of benefits under government schemes, including Ayushman cards, laptops and sanction letters. The report states that more than ₹19 crore was to be transferred to beneficiaries of various schemes.
Security was tightened throughout Raebareli for the Chief Minister’s visit. The poster further states that Yogi Adityanath attended an event commemorating the 222nd birth anniversary of freedom fighter Rana Beni Madhav Bakhsh Singh.
Development and Public Convenience
The controversy has renewed the debate over balancing security requirements during VIP visits with the everyday needs of residents. While major development projects can provide long-term benefits, opposition leaders maintain that government programmes should be accompanied by effective traffic planning so that hospitals, schools, businesses and commuters remain accessible.
The central demand raised in the report is for better planning, advance public notification and effective traffic diversions whenever large-scale VIP movements take place.
