Augharnath Temple on Monday as a large number of devotees arrived to offer prayers on the fourth and final Monday of the holy month of Sawan.
Senior police officers conducted an on-ground inspection of the temple premises and surrounding routes to assess security, crowd movement and traffic arrangements during the high-footfall religious occasion.
According to the information presented, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Meerut, accompanied by the City SP and other police officers, visited the temple and reviewed arrangements made for devotees.
Police personnel deployed in and around the temple were instructed to remain alert and vigilant, maintain public safety and ensure that worshippers could enter and leave the shrine smoothly.
Focus on Crowd and Traffic Management
With thousands of devotees traditionally visiting Shiva temples during Sawan, crowd management remained one of the administration's main priorities. Police personnel were positioned at key locations to regulate traffic, prevent congestion and facilitate the orderly movement of worshippers.
The inspection particularly focused on maintaining law and order, preventing overcrowding and ensuring that devotees could reach the temple and offer prayers in a safe and convenient manner.
Baba Augharnath Temple is one of Meerut's best-known Shiva temples and attracts large numbers of devotees during Sawan and the Kanwar period. Security around the shrine therefore remains an important focus for the district administration and police.
Preparations for major religious gatherings at the temple have traditionally included barricading, deployment of police personnel, surveillance and measures to regulate the movement of pilgrims and vehicles.
Police Appeal to Devotees
Authorities appealed to devotees to cooperate with police personnel, follow traffic instructions, use designated routes and contribute to maintaining a peaceful environment around the temple.
The fourth and final Sawan Monday of 2026 fell on 24 August, making the day's arrangements particularly significant for devotees offering prayers to Lord Shiva.
Key Highlights: Senior officers inspected security arrangements; police focused on devotee safety and smooth movement; traffic and crowd-management measures were strengthened; and personnel deployed around the temple were instructed to remain vigilant throughout the religious gathering.
Public safety remains the priority, with the message clear: no one is above the law and cooperation between devotees and the administration is essential for a peaceful celebration.
